Two of our longtime seasonal employees are graduating from Martha’s Vineyard High School this weekend.

Tonight was class night  at the Taberncle where over $860,000.00 in scholarships are awarded.

Alex was the winner of the Anthony H. Meyer Scholarship and the Scottish Society of M.V. Scholarship among others.

Eva was well on her way to a grand night of awards, having received 3 major awards early in the evening, with much of the ceremony to go. ( it’s 4 hours long and your publisher took a quick exit after his presentation)

Alex will be attending Nichols Business School and Eva Univ. Of Vermont.

Both are bright, talented young folks and we wish them much luck on the road ahead.

Alex and Eva will again be working at the club this summer.

Mr. ( Col.) Fred B. (Ted) Morgan has returned from yet another trip to Europe after having participated in the D-Day ceremonies throughout the land.

Ted’s son Tim was with him as they toured the beaches of the Utah and Omaha landings as well as several memorials in the area.

Ted attended a special gathering in the city of St. Mere Eglise where Ted was singled out by the town’s Mayor and given a large round of applause and well deserved thanks from the townspeople.

As a youth Tony worked 2 summers at the club and has gone on to be a fine player and a fine young man.

Tony has played in many local and national golf tournaments including 2 U.S. Amateurs.

Tony is attending Harvard University where he will be a senior and is the captain of the golf team.

Today, he is in the final group of the Massachusetts Open at Walpole C.C. in which he is in 3rd place.

The 24th Annual MV Youth Hockey Tournament has been postponed until June 9th.

We have been very busy this morning with 2 golfers on the course.

In preparation for the season and Memorial Day in particular we have finished the new garden area at the entrance to the club.

We would like to welcome the following as New Members of the Edgartown Golf Club.

We have 11 new members this year and the first group was posted in a prior post. ( see archives )

Additionally the names will be posted in the Pro Shop.

Jim is currently based in Easley S.C. and been successfully building his business.

While the “Orange Whip Swing Trainer” remains the core of his products, Jim has been working on developing new teaching aids like the “Orange Peel”.

The “Orange Whip” is currently used by many Tour Pros as well as thousands of amateurs all over the world. You will see one at almost every club you visit.

Jim’s work has taken him all over the country and to different parts of the world and he has been able to continue his passion of playing fine golf courses.

He has also been a frequent visitor back to the island and we expect to see him again this year.

We here at the club are very proud of his success!
