The island lost Nelson Smith this last week. In addition to being a great person, great neighbor and friend, Nelson would spend some of his later days wondering the road and bushes along holes 4 and 5 searching for balls with a long stick, filling his basket and delivering them to me at the club for the “kids ” . Most of you will remember Nelson as a Chappy Ferry captain in the “Jaws Era ” and beyond. There is a great piece on him in the opinion section the gazette online written by tom Dunlop.
